The Lady Vanishes

The last film to emerge from Hammer Studios in the 20th century was the 1979 re-make of Hitchcock's "The Lady Vanishes" (1938). Set in pre-WWII Germany, the film starred Elliott Gould, Cybil Shepherd & Angela Lansbury with a strong supporting cast including Arthur Lowe, Ian Carmichael, Gerald Harper, Jean Anderson etc.

Artist, Vic Fair was commissioned to create prototype artwork for the quad poster & this is one of several designs he produced. Conceptually, this was the closest in design to the A-style quad, later illustrated by Pulford (as shown below - image courtesy of emovieposter.com). Such was Fair's creative genius, that he was frequently used as the "ideas man" to produce layouts for other artists then to finish & fully illustrate, as here.

The artwork measures 22"x 32" & consists of 3 pieces of painted/drawn art on paper, which have been affixed to artboard. A lovely piece of late Hammer memorabilia & a particularly ethereal image of Ms Shepherd.
