Blood Money 1962

Original painted concept artwork (15"x 18 1/4") for the Quad cinema poster for the boxing drama "Blood Money" (aka "Requiem For A Heavyweight") which also featured a small role for Cassius Clay (aka Muhammad Ali).

As comparison with the printed Quad poster (shown for reference) illustrates, various elements of the concept design were used in the eventual Quad poster including the bowed head of Anthony Quinn & the distinctive vertical line composition of much of the imagery. The artwork is a mixed media piece mounted to Colyer & Southey artboard. Everything except the two running figures bottom left has been hand drawn or painted.

"Blood Money" was distributed by Columbia whose poster advertising was handled by Dixons at the time. Among the stable of Dixons artists was Vic Fair. We have no definite proof that this concept art was by Fair but Fair often built up his designs using mixed media like this. Fair also was well-known for his pen & ink etching work & this is again very well evident in this piece (including not only the image of Quinn but also the four individual box sketches of the main characters above). Although we cannot be 100% sure this work is by Fair, it is highly likely.

NB. A supplementary P&P charge will be required for overseas buyers.
