Brighton Rock Poster

Rare UK 8-page UK pressbook for the classic British film-noir "Brighton Rock" (1948) aka "The Worst Sin".

Based on a novel by Graham Greene, this Boulting Brothers production starred Richard Attenborough as the violent thug "Pinkie Brown". This large 8-page pressbook presents a great colour image of Attenborough on the cover & is full of information about the film, cast & crew inside.

As to why a film based on an international best selling novel should be re-titled, the pressbook provides an explanatory article & suggests "Brigton Rock" "is well-nigh untranslatable"! There is evidence of UK posters also being printed with the preliminary title: https://www.bonhams.com/auction/22874/lot/277/brighton-rock-the-worst-sin-associated-british-1947/ However, there is no evidence of "The Worst Sin" title being registered with the BBFC & "Brighton Rock" was certified in Sept 1947 so it is likely that after re-consideration, the distributors switched the name back to "Brighton Rock" at least for the UK release (in the US the film was called "Young Scarface")

A fascinating document for one of the most important films from the canon of British cinema. Tiny split to the cover spine & a very faint vertical fold but overall in excellent condition.
