Gone With The Wind Poster

UK Quad cinema poster for an early 1960's UK re-release of the classic "Gone With The Wind" (1939).

GWTW was released in the US in 1939 but was not released in the UK till March 1940. We have never seen an original 1940 UK Quad for GWTW & given the privations of war it is possible none were printed. In the post-war period, however, the film was shown in British cinemas at various times & several re-release posters were issued. The best-known features the fabulous full colour artwork by Howard Terpning, this for the 30th anniversary release in 1969: https://www.moviepostermem.com/Gone-With-The-Wind-Poster/56788. The silk-screen poster offered here, however, is believed to date to the early 1960's & though not as colourful as the later re-release, this is by far the scarcer of the two posters.

The importance of GWTW to the canon of 20th century cinema is shown by the fact that this is the only film to date which an entire auction has been devoted to: The Herb Bridges "GONE WITH THE WIND" COLLECTION, Christie's, New York, 24 July 2002. Several James Bond & Star Wars auctions have been held but these have featured items from the entire franchise & not just a single film.

Poster folded with an 8" conservation repair to right side, pin-holes to corners, foldline wear, some old tape marks to rim etc but still displays well & this poster represents a scarce piece of GWTW memorabilia & has been priced in accordance with condition.
