Lawrence Of Arabia Poster

Scarce first release UK Quad "Oscars" cinema poster for the David Lean epic "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962), this being one of the two Quad designs used to celebrate the films Oscars success after the Awards ceremony, 8th April 1963.

Starring Peter O'Toole & Omar Sharif, "Lawrence of Arabia" was a huge commercial & critical success (one of the biggest grossing films 1962-63, with ten Oscar nominations & seven wins, including the most coveted "Best Picture").

"Lawrence..." was premiered in London 10th Dec 1962 & as the film was gradually un-rolled in the major metropolitan centres, the pre-Oscars Quad was used (as shown below - note the Georges Kerfyser "shaded face" design). Following the April '63 Oscar Awards & once stocks of the pre-Oscars poster were exhausted, two other Quad designs were used instead, both using similar film title typeface & Oscars text. The poster offered here has elements of Howard Terpning's US artwork for the film & was possibly adapted by Fratini. The second "Oscars" Quad presents another Terpning design for the film but interestingly is missing the "Best Picture of The Year" text.

Poster folded with light creasing, a small 1/" nick lower right border, single pin-holes to three corners & minor paper loss to upper left corner (artwork unaffected). Colours are as shown - we do not use Photoshop to artificaially enhance. A scarce original first release "Oscars" Lawrence Quad dating mid-1963.
