UK Quad cinema poster for the drama starring Meryl Streep & Jeremy Irons "The French Lieutenant's Woman" (1981).

With director, Karel Reisz, music by Carl Davis, cinematography by Freddie Francis, a screenplay courtesy of Harold Pinter & terrific performances by the two leads, it is hardly surprising that the film was a critical success, garnering five Oscar nominations. Set & filmed in & around Lyme Regis, one notable scene in the film takes place on the harbour cobb. Artist Vic Fair, picked up on this seminal scene as shown in his prototype artwork shown here for reference. Although the final Quad poster failed to replicate this exactly (a photograph by Maureen Lambray was used instead) the essence of Fair's conceptual design was retained.
