Back To The Future II Poster

RARE UK "30x40" linen-backed cinema poster for "Back To The Future II" (1989) with Drew Struzan poster illustration.

This is a rare poster. When we initially listed the poster we were unsure whether this was a UK or US poster but we have been advised by the Quad poster historian Sim Branaghan ("British Film Posters" 2006) that the poster is most likely from the UK premiere of the film in Nov 1989. The Daily Star newspaper collaborated with Cannon Cinemas around this time on several promotional ventures of this type. The odd poster format ("30x40" portrait traditionally being a standard US not UK type of poster) can be explained by UK premiere posters often being bespoke productions (& always printed in low numbers). The banner text across the poster is printed not stickered. By 1989 few UK cinema posters carried printers text to the bottom rim. So all evidence points to a scarce UK poster format & an extremely rare premiere poster too.

Prior to backing, this poster was in poor condition with heavy creasing, tape to parts of the upper/lower rims & the corners. There appears to have been some paper loss to small areas of the corners & a small part of upper mid-rim . These areas & some foldline wear have been touched-in. The poster now displays to good effect but the restoration is British-style not American ie, the poster doesn't display as mint but has NOT been re-painted either.

Irrespective of the less than perfect condition, this is a rare piece of BTTF memorabilia & you will be hard pressed ever to find another example (in 30+ years of collecting/dealing/auction buying/selling we've never seen another one of these).
