Checkpoint Poster

Scarce UK Lift Bill poster (16 1/2"x 22") for the motor-racing thriller "Checkpoint" (1956).

The Lift Bill artwork is subtly different to that of the UK Quad & 1/2-Sheet posters. These were thought to be by the Italian artist Angelo Cesselon. Curiously a picture of "Checkpoint" Quad artwork in the UK marketing material provides a fuller image & includes the mysterious artist signature "ARDEL" (note in the image below bottom right). We have no knowledge of an artist of this name. Occasionally "foreign" artists did abbreviate their names (ie "Nano"), so it is possible that this is still Cesselon's but "ARDEL" was chosen as a more English sounding pseudonym. Irrespective, the artwork for the Lift Bill was clearly adapted from the original Quad artwork.

The poster is in superb, near mint, unused condition (a tiny crease to the dead centre of left rim). An ideal size for framing too!
