Come Play With Me Poster

UK Quad cinema poster for the iconic 1970's sex comedy "Come Play With Me" (1977) illustrated by Tom Chantrell.

Having gone freelance in 1972, much of Chantrell's work thereafter was for the independent film-makers & at the time, British sex-comedies like this were popular & commercially successful. "Come Play With Me" (including genre regular Mary Millington) was probably the most famous such example & indeed was a major commercial hit: it ran at the Moulin Cinema in London's West End for five years non-stop 1977-81 & although costing £120,000, it recouped £550,000 in West End takings alone.

Ever the astute commercial artist, Chantrell give Ms Millington prominence (left side) & delivers a saucy, enticing & colourful composition that was sure to catch the eye. This poster is regarded to be the most collectable of all British posters from the genre. Although Chantrell retained the original artwork, he later cut-out Mary to use her for the double-bill re-release with "Come Play With Me 2"!
