Ferry To Hong Kong Poster

Three UK Double-Crown cinema posters for the action-adventure film "Ferry To Hong Kong" (1959) with artwork by Renato Fratini.

Each DC depicts one of the three lead characters, Fratini's sparing & long brushstroke work very apparent here. Fratini worked extremely quickly eschewing detail but the artwork he created was exemplary, the Sylvia Syms piece being particularly fine & arguably the best portrait of the young actress on any film poster. The Quad poster was by Brian Bysouth. The choice of a different artist for the different poster formats was fairly common (agency artists were often working to tight deadlines so sharing the workload made sense). Interestingly only one of the three DC's (the Curt Jurgens one) carries the "...Charles & Read Ltd..." printers credit but all three posters measure the full 20"x 30" ie, they have NOT been trimmed.

The Bysouth Quad poster for this film is not particularly common but does surface in the market several times a year. These DC's, however, are rare & this is the first time we're aware of a full run of the three artwork DC's being available (we are informed that a fourth DC simply presenting the film title text completed the set). For an idea of relative value, at the time of listing a single one of the three artwork DC's was available elsewhere at $600.

Each poster faintly folded, now rolled & all in excellent display condition. Posters will be sent rolled in a tube. A wonderful collection of posters for any Fratini fan.
