From Russia With Love Poster

UK Quad linen-backed cinema poster for the second Sean Connery James Bond film "From Russia With Love" (1963) with poster illustration by Renato Fratini.

Regarded by many as the "best" of the James Bond posters, Fratini's artwork presents a typically laconic James Bond surrounded by beautiful women & hints of an exotic location. The "007" logo with a gun superimposed & the hammer/sickle in the "O" of "LOVE" are nice touches too. Unlike the later McCarthy/McGinnis Bond posters which are full of colour, action, explosions & gadgetry, Fratini's composition is relatively spartan but somehow this stripped down approach conveys perfectly the notions of Bond as a man of steely determination, restrained violence, power & sex! A sublime piece of poster artistry.

Prior to backing the poster was folded with some wear, several pin-holes to corners, a small faint mark to the upper white background & overall in very good condition. Apart from being cleaned & de-acidified in the process of backing, however, NO restoration has been undertaken meaning that unlike some linen-backed posters which have been extensively over-painted, this example remains in completely original condition. The linen backing overlaps the poster by several mm only.
