Jaws Poster
Linen-backed Australian Daybill poster for the "Jaws" (1975) with iconic Roger Kastel poster illustration.
Kastel's simple but very effective artwork showing a girl swimming in the sea with the monstrous shark looming underneath, was rightly used for the global marketing campaign for the film. The imagery fits the portrait format of this first release Aus Daybill perfectly.
It is difficult to under-estimate the importance of "Jaws". This was the first film to register earnings of over $100m on release (it cost $9m & took $470m!), it established the young Steven Spielberg as a Box Office Director (& was a springboard for his subsequent stellar career), it delivered a superlative John Williams soundtrack that became intimately associated with the success of the film & the "Summer Blockbuster" release established an entirely new marketing template that still is used in the cinema industry today!
Prior to backing this poster had the normal (as issued) two horizontal foldlines, with colours natually bold & vibrant. The poster displays as near mint & NO restoration of any kind has been undertaken (we have examined the poster under a UV light). This poster represents one of the classic images from 20th century cinema & remains in superb condition.
