No 1 of the Secret Service Poster

UK Quad cinema poster for the action double-bill of "No.1 of the Secret Service" & "The Sicilian Cross" (1977), the poster coming from the collection of the artist Brian Bysouth & signed by the artist too.

Posters for double-bill features often consist of two very different artworks being "bolted" together with little care about harmonising the effect (this is possibly because many double-bills simply featured re-released films or B-movie products & the advertising budgets for these was relatively small). The pairing here, however, is excellent. First, both films were similar action genre productions. Secondly both artworks are from the same artist & painted in a similar style. Each film is given equal billing (& size) which lends a symmetry that is easy on the eye. Whilst the colour scheme for both artworks is different (one yellow background the other black) the title section of "Sicilian Cross" resonates with the artwork of "No. 1..." skilfully binding the two together. Finally we have the centre pitch "Who's Number One?" which sets up the idea of a competition between the heroes of the two films, Richard Todd & Roger Moore. In our opinion, this is one of the best double-bill Quad compositions you will ever see.

NB. A second version of this double-bill was also printed featuring different artwork but whereas this is a common poster to find, the Bysouth version presented here is rare.

Poster unfolded but with several small edge tears (& slight paper loss) & some heavy creasing to the bottom right rim. Irrespective, these are fairly peripheral issues, the poster has NOT been folded, it is a rare poster in any condition, it's fabulous artwork & finally it benefits from having been signed by the artist himself!
