Oh What A Lovely War Poster
UK Quad linen-backed cinema poster for the British anti-war satire "Oh What A Lovely War" (1969).
The poster demonstrates the vaudevillian nature of this WWI satire. Set on Brighton pier, the film presented a series of anti-war vignettes. The film was notable both for being Richard Attenborough's directorial debut and for an awesome British cast which included, Michael and Vanessa Redgrave, Ralph Richardson, John Gielgud, Jack Hawkins, Kenneth More, John Mills, Susannah York, Maggie Smith etc.
A highly attractive piece of 1960's poster artwork, clearly reflecting the influence of contemporary pop-art. The poster is by Brian Sanders from a design by John Billingham (see Sim Branaghan book "British Film Posters" 2006).
Poster once folded but now linen-backed. Touch-ins to light foldline wear & some bottom edge nicks There is also a small pen annoation bottom right corner & a few light surface marks & the poster now displays to very good effect. (O)
