Original 12-page PROGRAMME (NOT a poster) for the 27th Oscars ceremony, at the RKO Pantages Theatre, Hollywood & the NBC Century Theatre, New York, 30th March, 1955.Marlon Brando won the Oscar for "Best Actor" for his role in "On The Waterfront", Grace Kelly won "Best Actress" for "The Country Girl", Elia Kazan won Best Director for "On The Waterfront" & "Best Picture" also went to "On The Waterfront".
Altogether "On The Waterfront" (1954) received twelve nominations & won eight Oscars. This crime drama is still revered today & is heralded as the film that introduced the concept of
"method acting". Al Pacino commented about Brando's performance in the film "I couldn't move. I couldn't leave the theatre. I'd never seen the like of it"! Brando utters one of the most famous lines of dialogue in 20th century cinema,
"I coulda been a contender". The programme remains
in excellent condition.
