Passport To Glory Poster
UK Quad cinema poster for "Passport to Glory" aka "The Sun Never Sets" (1939).
The poster was printed with the original title ("The Sun Never Sets") which has subsequently been over-painted with "Passport To Glory". American films shown in Britain were sometimes re-titled (& vice versa) so it is likely that the decision to change the film title here came after the posters were printed & it was simply cheaper to have the titles re-painted rather than printed afresh. The film was certified for release in the UK in June 1939 but the distributor Eros Films was established in 1947 so it is likely that this is Quad was printed around this time. "The Sun Never Sets" was a phrase used about the British Empire. In the aftermath of WWII with Britain bankrupt & signs of the Empire disintegrating, it may also have been deemed politic to change the film title.
Poster folded with a re-painted film title, several small areas of paper loss, some conservation tape repairs to the reverse & signs of wear & tear. Nonetheless
a scarce & very interesting Quad title.
