Planet of the Apes Poster

UK Double Crown poster for the "Planet of The Apes" franchise entitled "Go Ape!" (c' 1973-74).

An officially licensed poster, this was obviously a merchandise tie-in with the "Daily Mirror" newspaper. This design originated in the US where the poster was used to promote marathon drive-in showings of all the first five films (1968-72) in the series c' 1973 & the later TV series (1974) too.

The poster design takes it's inspiration from WWI propaganda posters, most notably the Lord Kitchener 1914 exhortation for Britons to volunteer which was later adapted by Montgomery Flagg for similar purposes in 1917 in the US (images cortesy of Wikipedia). A fascinating poster with an interesting design back-story too.

Poster folded with some pin-hole damage to corners.
