Playbirds Poster

UK Quad linen-backed cinema poster for the sex-comedy "Playbirds" (1978) starring Mary Millington & with poster artwork by Tom Chantrell.

When Chantrell turned freelance in 1972 he did a lot of work for independent distributors like Tigon. Many of the independents focused on sex/horror/comedy material. Chantrell was well-known for his ability to depict attractive women (ie, "One Million Years BC"). This coupled with an acute sense of humour meant that Chantrell was in high demand as an illustrator for these low-budget sex-comedy films which nevertheless did good box-office business in the 1970's. "Playbirds" & "Come Play With Me" (both featuring Mary Millington) are considered to be among the best examples of poster art for the British sex-comedy genre.

Poster once lightly folded but now linen-backed. The poster was unfolded & in superb condition prior to backing & required NO restoration (the crease bottom left is just to the linen & does not affect the poster). A classic Chantrell cinema poster (map chest 6).
