Re-Animator Poster

Scarce UK 1-Sheet cinema poster for the horror-comedy "Re-Animator" (1985) the poster composition by Tom Chantrell.

Although essentially a photographic design, this is a Chantrell poster. Reflecting the lack of painted artwork, Chantrell's fee for this job was just £150 (at a time when Chantrell's painted commissions were earning him multiples of this). Although Chantrell is known for his painted artwork, he was perfectly comfortable incorporating photographic elements into his designs too (see: https://www.chantrellposter.com/ for various examples). The design for both the Quad & the UK 1-Sheet are identical (we attach an image of the Quad for comparison) the 1-Sheet just having added critical plaudits & obviously re-formatted. Although both the Quad & UK 1-Sheets for this film are scarce, the 1-Sheet, as here, is far scacer than the Quad (this being the only example we've seen in 30 years).

"Re-Animator"was released after the "video nasty" furore but nonetheless the British censors insisted on cuts & editing before certifying the film for release. The OTT nature of the production was highlighted by the Special Effects team using 24 gallons of fake blood when their usual quota for such a film film was just 2 gallons. One scene which was initially cut involved a naked woman strapped onto a trolley resisting sexual molestation by a severed head!
