Barbarella Poster

UK Quad linen-backed cinema poster for the Roger Vadim scifi film "Barbarella" (1968) with poster illustration by Renato Fratini.

A film very much of the time, Vadim's scifi-sex fantasy starred Jane Fonda & an eclectic cast including also David Hemmings, Milo O'Shea, Ugo Tognozzi & Marcel Marceau. Based on a French comic strip, Jane Fonda played the eponymous futuristic heroine. The poster was designed by Robin Ray & painted by Renato Fratini. The poster design was much influenced by the psychedelic aesthetic of the late 1960's & the film was embraced by devotees of the counter-culture scene. A fabulous piece of poster art & a quintessential 1960's poster too.

Poster lightly folded & now linen-backed. There were neat pin-holes to corners & a slight red "rub" to the white background on the left mid rim. This would have been caused by the poster being machine-folded prior to the ink having properly set. However, the poster has been backed with none of the over-painting that some restorers favour. As far as we can tell, no over-painting has been undertaken at all. The poster displays overall to excellent effect & remains in original condition.
