Blanche Poster

A rare bespoke Paris-Pullman cinema poster (30"x 40") for Walerian Borocyzk's medieval French fantasy "Blanche" (1971). The poster presents an interesting design bearing some similarity to Peter Stausfield's woodcut poster illustrations for the Academy cinema.

The Paris-Pullman cinema was established in Drayton Gardens in London's Chelsea (please see image courtesy of Ken Roe Cinema Treasures). It ran as a cinema 1911-47 & then as a theatre to 1955. Thereafter it converted back to a cinema & specialised in foreign arthouse films until it closed in 1983 for re-development. As a single cinema the number of posters produced for any one film would have been tiny making them obviously very scarce. The cinema catered fto Chelsea's trendy set & was especially popular during the "Swinging 60's & early 70's. This poster represents a really fascinating piece of Chelsea's social & cultural history!

The poster remains unfolded though has clearly been displayed with old adhesive marks etc to corners & a couple of small conservation tape repairs to edge nicks (longest 2" to right edge). Overall still in very good condition. The poster will be sent rolled in a tube.
