The film tackled the sensitive issue of race relations in Britain. Although films like "Sapphire" (1959) had come before this was nonetheless an early attempt to confront the issues & with actors of the quality (& public standing) as John Mills & Sylvia Syms, "Flame In The Streets" had an important role in tackling aspects of racism in early 60's Britain.
