Food Of the Gods Poster

Really interesting UK Quad cinema poster for the double-bill horror & violence package of "Food of The Gods" (1976) & "Straw Dogs" (1971) c' 1977-78.

Normally double-bills "borrow" artwork from the initial release, albeit generally without full colour range. In this instance the "Straw Dogs" illustration re-formats that from the first release Quad but in the case of "Food of The Gods", new artwork is used: the damsel in distress is from Chantrell's original Quad (image shown for reference) but instead of a threatening cockeral, the horror factor is ramped up with the biting giant rat! Chantrell deliberately eschewed rat imagery in his earlier Quad figuring if he made the poster too horrific, people would stay away. However, it appears that the distributors wanted to heighten the shock-horror element of this later double-bill offering & hence, the changed artwork.

Poster essentially tri-folded (a faint single horizontal crease) & in very good condition (a few minor creases & a couple of small conservation tape repairs to edge nicks). This is a scarce double-bill poster & a rare case where Chantrell's original artwork was supposedly "improved" for a later re-release. (Box 1)
