His Excellency Poster
Rare unfolded UK Quad cinema poster for the Ealing romantic comedy "His Excellency" (1952) with poster illustration by James Boswell. The film told the tale of an ex-docker appointed by a Labour Government to Govern a British colonial island in the Mediterranean (it was shot on location in
Sicily around Palermo). This rare poster carries the names of two specific London West End cinemas
indicating that the poster was used in the very early release of the film (customarily films were shown in several West End cinemas following the premiere & then subsequently would be seen in other major metropolitan centres before being released into the provinces).
Boswell was born in New Zealand but came to London to study art when just nineteen. His political persuasion was left-wing & many of his artworks reflected this social consciousness. As a commercial artist Boswell worked for Shell & Sainsbury's. Boswell's involvement with film posters was mostly related to work with Ealing & Group 3 Studios.
