Jungle Street Poster

Fabulous UK Quad poster for the gritty British crime thriller "Jungle Street" (1960).

Set in the seedy London underworld the film starred David McCallum, Jill Ireland & Kenneth Cope (McCallum cornering the market for teenage tearaways at this time). Although the film was shot in b/w the poster provides a colourful depiction of the sleazy locale. Terrific evocative illustration here but the artist is currently unidentified. The film was granted an "A" certificate only after several seconds were removed from Jill Ireland's stiptease routine. Interestingly, she appearas on the poster bottom right but the sight of her bare midriff was obviously thought too provocative by the cinema manager at the time as her two piece has been replaced by a carefully added basque!

Poster folded with pin-holes to corners/rim, several small conservation repairs to edge tears, two minor chips of paper loss to upper right corner & bottom mid-rim. For anyone interested in getting the poster restored, the good news is that the paint applied to the censored lady has not stained through to the reverse which suggests that a restorer could remove this addition. Irrespective, the poster still displays to very good effect as is & this is a Quad title that is not frequently available.
