Passage Home Poster

UK Quad linen-backed cinema poster for the British nautical adventure "Passage Home" (1955), the film starring Anthony Steel, Peter Finch & Diane Cilento.

The artwork is by the Italian artist Silvano "Nano" Campeggi. Being a Rank film, the poster advertising would have been handled by the Downton ad agency. Eric Pulford, who headed Downton, would frequently commission Rome based artists (including Nano) for work like this. Nano became a favourite illustrator for Hollywood films, his back-catalogue included posters for over 60 Oscar winning films. Apart from the three leads (both Finch & Cilento being Australian actors), the film was stocked with a host of other well-known British character actors: Patrick McGoohan, Sam Kydd, Bryan Forbes, Gordon Jackson etc. Director, Roy Ward Baker later became a stalwart in the horror genre for both Hammer & Amicus Studios.

Poster originally folded but now linen-backed. Prior to backing the poster had pin-holes to corners, minor crossfold separation & a couple of small edge nicks to the white rim but the poster has required NO other restoration & displays to excellent effect.
