Passport To Pimlico Poster
Rare UK Quad Double-Crown cinema poster for "Passport To Pimlico" (1949).One of the quintessential Ealing comedies (1947-57) “Passport to Pimlico” was also one of the earliest films Ealing released & the poster bears artwork by the doyen of Ealing posters,
Sydney John Woods. The film was a charming comedy set in post-war Britain & filmed on a bombsite in Lambeth. As head of Ealing’s advertising department, SJ Woods was responsible for commissioning some highly regarded artists to illustrate the Ealing poster canon. Here, however, he created the poster design himself but drafted in
Nicolas Bentley for the cartoon illustration (Bentley famous for having illustrated TS Eliot’s “..Cats” book in 1939). We also have the Quad poster for this title
https://www.moviepostermem.com/Passport-To-Pimlico-Poster/58418 which is similarly rare though the print run for the Double-Crowns was far smaller than for the corresponding Quad sized posters.
Poster remains unfolded & in superb condition. The corners are all complete ie, there is NO paper loss (images just show "curl"). The paper stock used is quite thin so it is remarkable that this poster has survived let alone in such great condition.
A real piece of British cinema history!NB. A supplementary P&P charge will be required for overseas buyers.
