Passport To Pimlico Poster
One of the quintessential Ealing comedies (1947-57) “Passport to Pimlico” was also one of the earliest (released in 1949) & the Quad poster bears artwork by the master of the Ealing poster, Sydney John Woods.
The film was a charming comedy set in post-war Britain & filmed on a bombsite in Lambeth. As head of Ealing’s advertising department, SJ Woods was responsible for commissioning some highly regarded artists to illustrate the Ealing poster canon. Here, however, he created the poster design himself but drafted in Nicolas Bentley for the cartoon illustration (Bentley famous for having illustrated TS Eliot’s “..Cats” book in 1939). All Ealing posters are rare but this Quad is one of the rarest (the UK 1-Sheet poster for this title is more common & features a completely different design). NB. We also currently have a rare Double-Crown for this title too: https://www.moviepostermem.com/Passport-To-Pimlico-Poster/61653
The poster remains in very nice in order despite it’s age. Apart from the normal fold-lines, there is light creasing, single pin-holes to corners, a 1" tear upper left rim, wear to cross-folds (tiny paper loss to 3) & a tiny water stain just under the name “Margaret Rutherford” but this is hardly noticeable. A rare poster in any condition but this presents very well & is in totally original un-restored condition.
NB. A supplementary P&P charge will be required for overseas buyers.
