The Day The Fish Came Out Poster

UK Quad cinema poster for the Anglo-Greek comedy "The Day The Fish Came Out" (1967).

Written & directed by Michael Cacoyannis (he of "Zorba The Greek" (1964) fame) this film was described by Fox as "a satirical contemporary comedy with serious overtones" (it was based on a 1966 incident when the American airforce "lost" some nuclear weapons in Spain). Like certain other 1960's productions, much of the film was shot "on the hoof" without a final script being in place. The film was unsurprisingly chaotic & failed at the box office, hence the relative scarcity of this Quad poster.

Although we cannot be 100% sure, it is likely that the poster was desined/illustrated by Chantrell. The prolific use of day-glo & the colour tinted photo montage were common features of Chantrell's style of composition. Fox were the distributor & Chantrell's ad agency held the Fox account. Since Chantrell also illustrated the Quad for "Zorba..." (see https://www.chantrellposter.com/Zorba-The-Greek-Chantrell-Quad-Poster-Original/326) it is likely that he would have been a popular candidate for this comoposition.

Poster folded with some pin-holes to corners/rim & a small stain to the upper right foldline.
