The Godfather Poster

Rare UK Bus Stop London West End cinema poster (40"x 80") for "The Godfather" (1972).

Once a major film had premiered in London it would have a very limited West End London release (often just a week). Thereafter the film would be distributed to key British cities like Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester etc & then over the next six months it would be un-rolled across the rest of the UK. In this case, we have the rare London West End release poster (as close as you will get to a Premiere poster).

The poster carries the iconic puppeteer imagery of Sadimitsu Neil Fujita that characterised the global marketing campaign but at the bottom of the posters are the four named cinemas for the West End release. In over 30 years of collecting/dealing we've never seen another example of such a West End release poster for "The Godfather". Since 2000 emovieposter have sold 34 different format UK '72 posters but not a single West End release (the pattern is similar for Heritage Auctions too).

The poster comes as a single panel. There are a couple of minor edge nicks but the poster looks to be un-used & in excellent overall condition. Poster folded but could be backed to make a stunning statement piece. A "holy grail" for fans of this masterpiece of 1970's cinema!
