Vampire Circus Poster

UK Quad cinema poster for the Hammer horror film "Vampire Circus" (1971) with poster illustration by Vic Fair.

The film was an unusual take on the vampire genre with vampires masquerading under the guise of a travelling circus. The vampires had an ability to transform themselves into circus animals and descend on a village to vent revenge for an ancient wrongdoing. Lynne Frederick and Dave Prowse (of "Star Wars" fame) also appeared. Re: the poster design, Sim Branaghan (British Film Posters) commented "The big cats were taken from a children's storybook, but the hidden phallics at bottom left and right are all the artist's own work, and reflect his disgraceful sense of humour" (Vic told me that he was tired of having his designs rejected for being too risque so in protest he submitted this work full-knowing it would be refused - he was delighted to get the go-ahead when the vetting committee failed to interpret the blatant sexual imagery).

Poster folded & in excellent original un-restored condition. A classic piece of Vic Fair artistry & a key piece of 1970's Hammer poster art.
