Zulu Poster

An original first release UK Quad cinema poster for "Zulu" (1964), the poster presenting the film title "African style", below which the battle of Rorke's Drift rages.

Made in S.Africa (though still some distance from the actual battleground), producer (& star) Stanley Baker drafted in members of the S. African army & real Zulus as extras. Although a potentially volatile mix during the period of apartheid, Baker insisted on equitable treatment for all, even though they camped apart. "Zulu" was also noteworthy for providing a breakthrough role for Michael Caine, the casting of the cockney bit-part player as the upper crust Lt. Bromhead, being a stroke of genius (after seven years of small TV/film roles, Caine's next role after "Zulu" was to star in "The Ipcress File" (1965)).

There were two print runs for the first release of Zulu in 1964. The first, & largest, was by "S&D S" printers & the second was by "Kent Art Printers, Rochester". The poster we have here is the first print run Quad. Although both posters have the same design, the colour balance is subtly different (see the example we have of the second print run variant for comparison: https://www.moviepostermem.com/Zulu-Poster/62777).

Poster folded with pin-holes to corners/rim, an extra vertical fold running down the right white rim border (1/2" in) & a small horseshoe shaped tear to the word "Directed" to the lower mid area. These are minor issues & as can be seen the poster displays to excellent effect "as is".

NB. A supplementary P&P charge will be required for overseas buyers.
