Carry On Spying Poster

UK Quad cinema poster for "Carry On Spying" (1964) featuring Chantrell's typically humourous artwork (Chantrell illustrated all the Carry On Quads during the period 1963-66 - see http://www.chantrellposter.com/ for more information).

There has been some confusion in the market about the UK poster design for "Carry On Spying" with some believing that Chantrell's design was changed from "straight gun barrel" to "bent gun barrel" following objections from the James Bond production company ("Carry On Spying" was an obvious spoof of the Bond genre). However, as custodians of the Chantrell archive we can state categorically that Chantrell's original artwork featured a "bent barrel design". The Bond Producers did intervene but it was to have the barrel "staightened" on the artwork for the Quad poster (the most commonly used in the UK). UK 1-Sheet posters retained the original "bent barrel" design (this poster format being used in overseas export markets) see also the Campaign Book for corroboration: https://www.moviepostermem.com/Carry-On-Spying-Poster/59774. The "Carry On Spying" Quad is rare in any case but every Quad example we've ever seen presents the revised "straight barrel" illustration.

This poster is in original un-restored condition, folded (as issued) with a pin-hole to upper left rim, two pin-holes to upper right corner, light general creasing etc. As can be seen the poster displays to very good effect & is a scarce surviving un-restored example (should you wish something that looks "perfect" we do have a linen-backed restored example available currently too: https://www.moviepostermem.com/Carry-On-Spying-Poster/61884
