UK Double-Crown silk-screened poster for the French documentary "Chronicle Of A Summer" (1961).

Directed by the exponents of "cinema verite" Edgar Morin & Jean Rouch, the film detailed a day-in-the-life of ordinary Parisians.

This poster presents the highly distinctive artwork by Peter Strausfield & was a bespoke poster created specially for the arts cinema, The Academy, in London. The print run for this poster would have been small. Strausfield was a German emigre who worked as the in-house poster designer for The Academy 1947-80. Strausfield's posters were based on woodcut or linocut designs & are characteristically stark but extremely effective. We are aware of only one other of these posters in the market before & that was sold in auction 12 years ago.

Poster unfolded with a tiny nick to upper right rim & a couple of very light surface marks but overall in excellent condition & a genuine rarity.
