East Of Eden Poster

Rare UK 1/2-Sheet cinema poster for the James Dean film "East of Eden" (1955).

"East of Eden" provided James Dean with his first big movie role & represents his "breakthrough" film. This rare first release poster heralds this, trumpeting "James Dean The Most Dynamic Star Discovery Of The Year!". UK 1/2-Sheet posters were printed in tiny numbers compared to the corresponding Quads. This is reflected by the fact that this poster is a silk-screened print. Although this poster was previously identified as a US 1/2-Sheet this was erroneous (two completely different designs were used for the US 1/2-Sheets & both the certification "A" & distributors credit "Warner Bos Pictures Ltd" are signifiers that this is a British poster). The rarity of this piece is highlighted by this being the only example we've seen in 34 years of collecting & dealing.

Poster folded with extensive conservation repairs to the reverse to tears/fold splits etc, a few small areas of paper loss, pin-holes, creasing etc. We have graded the condition as "Poor" BUT the poster still displays to very good effect "as is" & could be restored if so desired. Irrespective, this poster remains as a genuinely rare piece of James Dean memorabilia & possibly the only such poster left surviving.
