Genevieve Poster

UK Quad linen-backed first release cinema poster for the classic British comedy "Genevieve" (1953).

Starring Dinah Sheridan, John Gregson, Kay Kendall & Kenneth More the film revolved around the fun & games of two couples participating in the London-Brighton vintage car rally. The filming was bedevilled by bad weather & budget over-runs & the portents looked poor but upon release "Genevieve" became a major hit, being the second highest UK grossing film of the year. Larry Adler's harmonica inspired theme tune remains a classic of British cinema.

The Eric Pulford poster is similarly a joyous classic, vibrant & colourful. In the poster-war period with the overhang of rationing & bomb damage, UK cinemagoers lapped up light-hearted comedies of this sort. "Genevieve" delivered the "feel good" factor in spades & Pulford's poster was a superb compliment.

Poster originally folded but now linen-backed. We did not get this poster backed ourselves but under UV inspection it appears to have had light restoration only (air-brushed white outer rim, a couple of small areas to the white background & with several small foldline touch-ins). The vast bulk of the artwork of the poster required no attention at all. The poster displays to excellent effect. Needless to say this is a rare poster (the corresponding "Genevieve" UK 1-Sheet is relatively common in comparison).
