Great Movie Themes Composed by Miklos Rozsa

Original painted Chantrell artwork (19" sq) for the LP cover for "Great Movie Themes Composed by Miklos Rozsa", released by MFP in 1968 (the printed LP cover shown for reference).

The American-Hungarian composer Miklos Rozsa was responsible for numerous soundtracks including "The Four Feathers" (1939), "Spellbound" (1945), "Quo Vadis" (1951), "Ben-Hur" (1959), "The Green Berets" (1968), "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad" (1973) etc.

Although Chantrell was primarily a cinema poster artist, like most commercial artists of the time, he took on other work as well. Clearly as this LP release featured movie themes, MFP wanted the album cover to have the feel of a cinema poster & hence Chantrell was a natural choice. The artwork features several typical Chantrell design features, including the massively bold title script, bags of action & a great sense of dynamism. There are clear echoes of Chantrell's work for Hammer Studios at this time too (see the Quad posters  for "The Brigand of Kandahar" 1965, "She" 1965 & "The Vengeance of She" 1968).

Chantrell was obviously pleased with this composition as he signed it to the bottom border, mounted & framed the artwork & had it hanging in his home. This artwork originally came from the artists's own collection & a written statement to this fact will be supplied (please see https://www.chantrellposter.com/). The artwork will be sold attached to original backing board.
