Rogue Trader Poster

UK Quad cinema poster for the film "Rogue Trader" (1999) with the scarce withdrawn £20 note design.

The film told the tale of the Singapore based trader Nick Leeson who de-frauded Barings Bank (1995) to the extent that it went bankrupt. Leeson's misdemeanours resulted in job losses for all at Barings & impacted bonuses across the City. It was fortunate for him that he was arrested, tried & jailed. Had he remained in circulation it is likely to have been even more problematic.

This particular Quad design featured a mocked-up banknote which was somewhat indelicate as it was used without permission from the Bank of England. Given the suject matter & sensitivities at the time, this design was withdrawn & an alternative used instead (image used courtesy of emovieposter).
