Star Wars Poster

An original Trade Ad (11 1/4"x 16 1/2") showing the early Hildebrandt poster artwork for "Star Wars" (1977), this piece dating from Dec 1977.

When "Star Wars" was released in the US on 25th May 1977 the US poster campaign used artwork from both Tom Jung & the Hildebrandt brothers. The UK release followed seven months later, the premiere being on 27th Dec 1977 & it was planned to use the Hildebrandt design for the Quad poster campaign. A limited number of Hildebrandt "Star Wars" Quads were printed (we currently have one available: https://www.moviepostermem.com/Star-Wars-Poster/62158) before the switch was made to the alternative Chantrell poster design: https://www.moviepostermem.com/Star-Wars-Poster/62285. The Hildebrandt poster now commands huge prices but this Trade Ad is exactly contemporary, has the same design, is a smaller size so easier/cheaper to frame & display & most important, it comes at a fraction of the price of the poster.

The Trade Ad has a single vertical foldline (as issued) & two sets of staple holes where extracted from the magazine where it appeared. This item looks fabulous framed!
