The Hireling Poster

Unusual UK Double-Crown poster for the British period drama "The Hireling" (1973).

The film premiered & triumphed at the Cannes Film Festival May '73. We do not believe that "The Hireling" had a UK premiere so this DC for the West End cinema, the Carlton, is likely to have been one of the earliest opportunities for UK audiences to see the film! The "Hireling" was shot extensivly in & around Bath.

The poster artwork was by Vic Fair (see attached his full colour Quad for reference). Fair's design hints of the class divide between aristocrat Sarah Miles & her chauffeur, Robert Shaw & the underlying sexual tension between the two. Double-Crown posters were produced in far smaller quantities than the corresponding Quads & this is an even scarcer bespoke named cinema version too.

Poster unfolded, printed on card stock & in excellent condition. Poster will be sent rolled in a tube (mcj).
