The Shootist Poster

UK Quad poster for the John Wayne western "The Shootist" (1976), this being the last film that Wayne ever made.

Telling the tale of an old gunfighter who is dying of cancer & repairs to rented rooms to die in peace but is then hounded by the local low-life, this was a terrific film for Wayne to end with & the UK was blessed with a superb piece of poster illustration. According to the Sim Branaghan book "British Film Posters" (2006), the artist Roger Coleman was drafted in to provide alternative artwork after Richard Amsel's American campaign was deemed ineffective (see an image of the US 1-Sheet poster below for comparison - image courtesy of emovieposter). Coleman's illustration portrays Wayne's face with loads of hard gritty character. A real triumph!

The poster has paper loss to upper right & several small conservation repairs to lower left rim (longest 2"). Poster once folded but now rolled & will be sent in a tube. This is one of the few western genre Quad titles that has appreciated in value in recent years. In excellent condition this poster retails at £350-500 but this particular example has been priced in accordance with condition & allows for plenty of opportunity for upgrading with restoration.
