Thoroughly Modern Millie Poster

UK Quad linen-backed cinema poster for the Julie Andrews musical "Thoroughly Modern Millie" (1967).

This is a special "Mini Cooper" merchandise tie-in Advance poster (the General Release Quad poster looks completely different). This colourful joyous creation ostensibly promotes the new film (set in the 1920's) but uses a design redolent with contemporary 1960's Pop-Art design. The poster puns the film title as "Thoroughly Modern Mini", the gleaming blue car & associated text accentuating the message that the Mini is the star attraction here. A clever piece of marketing & possibly designed to capture the increasing market of female drivers?

The General Release Quad poster for "Thoroughly Modern Millie" is quite common but this "Mini" tie-in poster is scarce. This poster was printed in small quantities & would have been picked up only be the very largest cinemas. Few have survived.

Poster previously folded with several pin-holes to corners but now linen-backed. The poster appears to have needed no restoration & it displays to excellent effect.
