The Boy and The Bridge Poster
Scarce UK Quad cinema poster for the British drama "The Boy and The Bridge" (1959) featuring pen & ink artwork by Vic Fair.
Shot in b/w in & around London's Tower Bridge, the film recounts the tale of a young boy who runs away from home & takes up residence in Tower Bridge (lots of great period London footage). Although the film had a Royal Premiere, the director Kevin McClory was generally panned by the critics. This might explain why McClory concentrated on film production rather than directing thereafter, most notably in the case of the Bond film "Thunderball". Also of note in the cast was future "Dad's Army" stalwart Arthur Lowe.
This is possibly the earliest example of a Vic Fair Quad poster. After Fair finished his National Service, he re-joined the Dixons ad agency (c' 1958). Dixons had the Columbia Studios contract at this time & the pen/ink illustration here is characterisic Vic Fair work.
Poster folded with a couple of small edge nicks but overall in excellent condition. As a sign of how scarce this poster is, this is the first example we've seen in over 30 years of collecting/dealing. A really interesting piece of British (& London) cinematic history & a great addition to any Vic Fair collection too.
